Jaime Reyes starts out as an everyday teen trying to cope with his bickering friends...upon which they all stumble upon a scarab-like beetle. Thinking it's just a 'really-cool big bug' Jaime takes the beetle home and sets it on his nightstand. The next morning the beetle is gone....and thus the adventure begins....
