Down begins with a routine drug bust. It quickly turns into a shootout which leaves pimps and drug dealers covered in bullet holes and losing more than a few vital organs, thanks to the story's main protagonist. Think of a less creative Punisher combined with Gotham City's Renee Montoya and you have a pretty good idea of narcotics detective Deanna Ransome. Rather than give her the boot for breaking every police academy rule in a matter of minutes, the higher ups hand her a new assignment. Two years ago, her predecessor became so involved in an investigation that rather than take down a crime syndicate, he instead chose to become its new, deadlier leader. Deanna is assigned to go undercover posing as an assassin for hire, infiltrate his mob, and bring him back, dead or alive.
