I'll admit to groaning a bit when hearing the news of Captain America getting a new #1 and the current series being rebranded to Captain America and Bucky, even with the amazing creative team involved. What did I learn? That I was an idiot. After a well-paced, if safe, debut last month, Cap and Bucky return to show the true potential of this series. Brubaker and Andreyko present an all too eager Bucky, ready to get on the battlefield and kill him some Nazis. And though this is chapter 2 of a 5 part story, issue #621 does a stellar job of framing the narrative around the first time Bucky ever kills a man and the effect it has on him. Knowing where he winds up, it's a rather haunting framework that does wonders to add even more to a character that Brubaker has made his own in the years since his return.
