Pitting Captain Cold against Mr. Freeze is comic book glory. However, this isn't Captain Cold. Citizen Cold is essentially the Flashpoint Universe's Booster Gold in that he is a swindler playing superhero for the fame and sponsorships. He's just as dirty as the criminals he takes down, but the public doesn't know the difference. While there are great elements to this story 鈥?Wally West fans should be somewhat satisfied 鈥?they never quite come together for anything cohesive. Scott Kolins, who takes on both scripting and art duties, presents pieces but is unable to bring them together in any meaningful way. While the other Flash rogues gear up to take down Cold, Wally and Iris investigate the death of Mr. Freeze and Cold's father (?) is apparently murdered. And then the issue ends! We're left with a fun cliffhanger, but ultimately, issue #1 doesn't bring any of these threads together to form a direction. Though the narrative is wonky, Kolins shows a knack for writing the classic rogues. Cold himself comes off a bit hokey at first, but as the issue progresses Kolins is able to find a more fitting voice.
