This is a short, tidy, comprehensible pamphlet explaining a couple of things: (1) how the gods were made; (2) what is the most intelligent and sensible interpretation of history. John Keracher starts off explaining the two more or less primitive but popular conceptions of history: (1) God made events happen (theological interpretation) or (2) an idea came into somebody's head and changed everything (idealist interpretation of history). But it is the materialist interpretation of history that wins hands-down, since it has greater explanatory power than the first two: the socio-economic environment is responsible for the belief in gods and is also responsible for how and why an idea may come into somebody's head.
