1. The Case of the Missing Books
British author Sansom launches a humorous new series set in Tumdrum, Northern Ireland, the small village that transplanted Londoner Israel Armstrong reluctantly makes his home. The nebbishy Jewish vegetarian shows up at the Tumdrum and District Public Library eager to assume his post as the new librarian, only to find the place boarded up and that it\'s his job to steward the beat-up mobile library instead. When he finally gets inside the library building, he discovers its 15,000 books are missing. Less astute than the detective characters in the novels he has devoured, Israel blunders through an investigation, making startling discoveries while suffering some hard knocks along the way. Israel\'s fish-out-of-water dilemmas and encounters with kooky locals will resonate with Alexander McCall Smith fans.
2. Mr Dixon Disappears
Israel Armstrong is suspected of robbing and kidnapping a local department store magnate, the titular Mr. Dixon, who dabbled in the magical arts. To clear his name, he must penetrate the bizarre world of Ulster magic. Dixon\'s wife seems curiously unmoved by her husband\'s absence, but perhaps all the alcohol she swills is masking her true emotions. If this isn\'t enough to ruin Israel\'s week, Linda, his boss at the mobile library, learns that Israel\'s been digging into the petty cash to pay his friend (and love interest), Rosie, to work for a few hours each week. Linda suspends him, and Rosie, who had thought her job was on the up and up, gets steamed about Israel\'s patronizing deception. Readers will enjoy the snappy dialogue and wacky cast of characters, particularly the lovable and winsome Israel.
3. The Book Stops Here aka The Delegates\' Choice
Israel Armstrong, one of literature\'s most unlikely detectives, returns for more crime solving adventure in this hilarious third novel from the Mobile Library series. Israel has been invited to attend the Mobile Meet in London, the annual mobile library convention, with his irascible companion Ted Carson. Back in the UK, Israel is reunited with his family, and there is much eating of paprika chicken, baklava and the drinking of good coffee. But within only twenty-four hours of their arrival, the mobile library has been nicked. Who on earth would want to steal a thirty-year old rust-bucket of a van, and who can the two men turn to for assistance? 4. The Bad Book Affair
Israel Armstrong - the hapless duffle coat wearing, navel-gazing librarian who solves crimes and domestic problems whilst driving a mobile library around the north coast of Ireland - finds himself on the brink of thirty. But any celebration, planned or otherwise, must be put on hold when a troubled teenager - the daughter of a local politician - mysteriously vanishes. Israel suspects the girl\'s disappearance has something to do with his lending her American Pastoral from the library\'s special \"Unshelved\" category. Now he has to find the lost teen before he\'s run out of town - while he attempts to recover from his recent breakup with his girlfriend, Gloria, and tries to figure out where in Tumdrum a Jewish vegetarian might celebrate his thirtieth birthday.
