E-books are a new hot topic for publishers and libraries, and now there is a book to help librarians sort out some of the issues surrounding this technology. Editor Polanka, who covers e-books in her blog, No Shelf Required, has assembled a group of contributors to offer a comprehensive introduction. Following a chapter on e-book history are chapters discussing e-books and students’ learning; e-books in school, public, and academic libraries; and e-book acquisitions and management. One frustrating problem is that there are no—or rather, there are too many—standards in the ways e-books are currently delivered, introduced, and hosted, and one chapter explores the various standards that now exist and what changes need to be made. A final chapter deals with “The Future of Academic Book Publishing.” An essential guide to a topic of high importance
