In one excruciatingly simple masterstroke, Brian Wood makes his point and lets it resonate. New York Five has been a fun return to the freshmen girls we met a few years back, but up until this issue we've been left to ponder where exactly Wood was leading. Trust me, this delivers. I really don't want to spoil it, so I'll just say this: this issue gives an unexpected twist that unifies the girls in a way we haven't seen them since The New York Four. They've all been leading their separate dramatic lives throughout this series, but now they're forced to reflect upon the past year, as well as their own selfishness. Along the way, Wood crafts a fitting love song to New York City that anyone with a soft spot for the city that never sleeps will appreciate.
