I'm just going to say this upfront: Avengers vs. New Ultimates #4 barely has anything to do with the "Death of Spider-Man." While Spider-Man getting shot was the cliffhanger of last month's issue, it's only real purpose for being in this series is to be a catalyst to stop the fisticuffs between the Ultimates and Avengers. After that point, the Spider-Man subplot is quickly pushed aside to instead focus on the ongoing plot this series has been building since issue #1.
If you can get over that fact, then Avengers vs. New Ultimates #4 has a lot to offer readers. It's a fantastically written issue by Mark Millar. From page one, it is filled to the brim with genuinely shocking moments and intriguing plot twists. In fact, we finally learn who the true villain of this series is in this issue, although it's telegraphed a few pages prior to the official reveal.
