f you're expecting to pick up where the last issue left off, you're in for a surprise. Venom #2 throws you into the middle of the action in the Savage Land, where Venom has been deployed to take out a facility that is mining an extremely deadly material that can be used to make unstoppable weapons. As it happens, Venom runs into Kraven the Hunter and a battle of machismo ensues. Remender writes Flash Thompson with a sense of despair, reaching deep to showcase the wounded soldier that's gotten a second chance to serve his country. Though this issue is essentially one ginormous fight scene (with giant bats), Remender does a fine job of juxtaposing Flash's inner monologue with violent, abusive action. He seems to be latching onto Flash's personal relationships a great deal; a must in order to sway previous Venom haters (me) to the side of sympathy for the character.
