What I have come to expect from a Red Dress Ink novel is epitomized in Slightly Single. A very easy read; increasingly enjoyable with each turning page; and despite its predictability, its appeal kept me reading. No great frills in the writing style -- it\'s kept more conversational and relaxing -- and the plot does not punch and pop, but Wendy Markham has created a very relateable character, very human, with warts and all. And in her effort, has also created a fan in me.

Tracey Spadolini left her family in a small upstate town in New York to be with Will in the Red Apple. They were together for three years and she was hoping he would ask her to marry him but instead he dumps her for another woman. She gets so depressed that she starts seeing a psychiatrist who prescribes anti-depressants for her, causing her to lose close to fifty pounds. Now she is slender with an eye-catching figure with no one to share it with.
At the office Christmas party she meets Jack and the two of them hit it off immediately. After the party, they go to her apartment where they make love all night long. Her friends don\'t think she should get in a deep relationship with Jack because she\'s still on the rebound from Will. As time passes, Will turns into a bad memory and Jack is still waiting for her to get over her insecurities.
Aside from the opening chapter where the protagonist has a one night stand with a man she met while very drunk, Tracey is very easy to like with her bundle of insecurities and her doubts that she is attractive. This is a delightful chick lit story about a woman looking for Mr. Right and when she finds him she fears he will turn into a toad like her previous boyfriend. Wendy Markham delivers a lighthearted romp that turns up the body heat on a cold winter\'s day.

Is an amusing story when the plot focuses on the difference between Tracy and Jack re their wedding. He thinks short and quick; she ponder long and extended; paralleling their sex life. Although several sidebars involving the relationship woes of her friends add depth to Tracy, these amusing subplots take away from the humorous entertaining prime theme of the final frontier from proposal to I do.

It was definitely my least favorite in the series, and the conversations between Tracy and her over-the-top gay friend Raphael were extremely painful and tough to get through. I found it insulting that Raphael is portrayed in such a stereotypical manner. He\'s a caricature, not a real person. I often wondered how Tracy\'s delicate little friend Kate could even stand Raphael, yet she\'s supposedly a buddy of his as well. I also don\'t see what Tracy sees in Jack. The author in this series never really develops Jack\'s personality.

Each chapter is identified as past or present (1989 versus 2004), and chock full of so many pop culture references to the 80\'s that late boomers will get a kick out of the trip down memory lane. The past and present flow so well together. As Beau bounces from anecdotes and stories about each Mike, the reader is just not sure which Mike she ended up with. Just when you think you know that it is one Mike, you reconsider and believe it is the other Mike, and then back again. \"Mike, Mike & Me\" is a cleverly written and entertaining novel that will keep you guessing.
