The Young Allies are shown being beaten by Hydro-Man until Spider-Man arrives and helps to defeat Hydro-Man. Following Hydro-Man's defeat, Spider-Man soon discovers that some of the civilians are starting to develop spider-like abilities.
It is later revealed that Jackal achieved this through the aid of several human clones of himself and funding from a mysterious female benefactor. He has also enlisted the aid of the mutated Kaine whom he had captured.
