Victor Gischler's X-Men looks to be picking up steam in its second arc. Minus all the hype of tie-ins to "Curse of the Mutants," Gischler is able to spin a simple yarn that unites the X-Men and Spider-Man against The Lizard. This series does what Uncanny seems reluctant to do and narrows its cast to the essentials, giving those remaining more room to breathe. Gischler also writes an enjoyable and amusing Spidey, one who takes potshots at Gambit while also putting Wolverine in his place when needed. On some level I'm struck by the same question I was during the previous arc - "Why does this story need to involve the X-Men at all?". But unlike that story, I don't find myself caring all that much in the end.
